I am excited to announce the first ever Apache Tribe Indoor Percussion Ensemble! This is a competitive group open to any high school student who is interested in learning more about marching and pit percussion. We will be competing in the Scholastic B Marching Class of the Indiana Percussion Association circuit. The deadline to join and pay in full is November 30th. All information is available on the WME website under Extracurriculars—Indoor Percussion Ensemble. Contact Mr. Woodruff for more information.
Rehearsals will begin in November on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6 to 9PM. They will be held in the WMS auditorium or one of the school’s gyms. Contests are on Saturdays starting February 17th though finals March 24th. All conflicts with the schedule must be resolved in advance. Missing rehearsals will set the whole group behind, so if you are unable to commit to this schedule, indoor percussion is not for you.
Every effort will be made to let students choose their instrument. However, we need a balanced instrumentation to produce an effective show. If necessary, auditions will be held to assign parts at the discretion of the director(s).
Indoor percussion functions like an athletic team. Students should expect to train physically, mentally, and musically. Personal and group discipline is of utmost importance. It only takes one uncommitted or negative person to ruin a show. Students are expected to uphold the WHS, WMS, and Band Handbooks at all times. In rare circumstances, students may be dismissed from the group at the discretion of the director(s) with just cause. Students need to be well rested, well fed, and well hydrated for the long hours of practice throughout the season. Students need to bring water to all rehearsals. You may bring snacks as well for break times.
PE Waiver – Indoor Percussion Ensemble is not eligible for the PE Waiver.
Fees and Expenses
The total cost of an IPA show varies from year to year. It is my goal to make all extracurricular band activities affordable for everyone. Instead of charging you an equal share of the cost based on the number of students, there is a flat fee plus uniform costs (which are based on the show each year), the school contributes money for director stipends, and Wabash Music Education grants money for show design, competition fees, and major supply expenses. Without the extra support, the participation fee would be several hundred dollars. If the fee is too much, contact Mr. Woodruff for financial assistance—no student will be turned away for monetary reasons.
Everyone will pay a $100.00 participation fee. This money gets your student a show shirt and helps cover show costs, including supplies, instrument maintenance, music arrangement, drill design, copyright, and staff stipends. Your total cost will depend on any supplies you need to purchase.
Every member will need to supply certain specific parts of their uniform. This will help keep the overall costs of season lower versus ordering custom uniforms. What you buy with this fee will be yours to keep. More information about what is needed will be given during November rehearsals.
Drop Fee – NEW THIS SEASON!
There is a $400 drop fee if your student signs up by the deadline then quits after December 1, 2017 (a student will be considered to have quit if they stop attending rehearsals/performances for two consecutive weeks during the season). This fee is assessed to cover the cost of any equipment ordered on behalf of your student and to cover the cost of rewriting the show to accommodate the change in participants. This fee is collectable by Wabash Music Education. The consenting parent/guardian is required to give the director a written drop notice. If payment arrangements are not made within 30 days of the drop notice, or if the student quits without written notice, Wabash Music Education will pursue the full cost of your share of the total show cost based on the number of participants at the sign up deadline and the final cost of the whole season after state finals in March. Failure to pay in full by the end of the school year will result in legal action to collect the debt.
